Facing global exploitation, inequality, and environmental crises, Not That Basic explores how Universal Basic Income (UBI) could spark a global shift toward economic and environmental well-being—making financial stability a right, not a privilege.

Approach

Through an international documentary, we unravel UBI’s promise: a guaranteed, no-strings-attached income that could reduce stress, empower individuals to pursue meaningful work, and foster a healthier relationship with our planet. This is the promise of UBI—a bold, transformative idea that redefines our relationship with the economy, work, society and the environment. With crowdfunding support, we’re traveling to UBI pilot programs all over the globe to spotlight real-world impact stories. Although we’ve successfully funded initial steps via Kickstarter, community backing remains central to bringing this documentary to life.

Insight

The transformative potential of UBI lies in reimagining our social contract—seeing economic security as a foundation for innovation, equity, and sustainability. By profiling actual communities trialing UBI, the film offers a grounded view of how this concept can address systemic issues and inspire hope.

Idea

Rather than leaning on theoretical arguments alone, Not That Basic gives a human face to UBI. We follow families and individuals navigating real challenges—demonstrating how a stable, guaranteed income could foster new opportunities, reduce inequality, and help protect our environment.
